An Eye Surgery Patient Helped by Cell Phone Collection Program

Glenda is a single mother who had a steady job that supported both she and her young son. In her mid 30s, Glenda developed cataracts that caused her to become legally blind. She could no longer work, drive or perform daily household activities such as cooking and reading to her son. Eye surgery provided by the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation restored Glenda's sight. Glenda says, "I am able to support myself and my family again and that is very important to me."

The Lighthouse has over 175 stories like Glenda's from last year alone. The Lighthouse has also provided over 500 pairs of glasses and 600 hearing aids to Georgians in need over the last year. They recycle over 100,000 pairs of eyeglasses a year to send on medical relief missions. That is what the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation is about--helping restore the sight and hearing of others.

How can the public help? By donating old cell phones to the Lighthouse's Cells for Sight Program. The cell phone collection program provides revenue for sight surgeries like Glenda's. The cell phones that have been collected have already paid for three surgeries this year.

Through working with cell phone recycling giant PaceButler Corporation, the Lighthouse has raised $10,000 for their sight program. Their goal is to collect 100,000 cell phones, so they're asking individuals as well as businesses to get involved and collect phones on their behalf.

The cell phones collected not only help the Lighthouse and their projects, they also help the environment. Environmental Protection Agency regulations state that toxic items such as cell phones should be kept out of landfills because of their destructive effect on the environment. Cell phones are constructed of materials known as 'persistent toxins' that don't easily decompose after disposal. By donating your old cell phones, you can help to ensure they do not end up in landfills.

Celebrity exploitation and obsession has taken itself to a new level. Even companies that usually shy away from this form of promotion are hitching their branding on to the bandwagon. The bottom line is - celebrity notoriety sells almost everything and companies can always expect a good return on the publicity.

I can almost imagine the executive conversation that goes on in the marketing boardrooms of some of the nation's most respected brands:

Louis Vuitton - Maybe we can get Naomi Campbell to throw another hissy fit so she can wear our shoes in public during her court mandated public community service.

or even,

American Apparel - Who hasn't been drunk in our hoodies? Celebrities love to do it all the time!

This is the level of marketing that companies have stooped down to in order to sell their brand identity. "Even at their worst, hot young actresses can move product, and fashion companies that in the past would have shied away from provocateurs are less reticent to embrace them," says Eric Wilson of The New York Times.

And what kind of justification have we heard fom companies to make this acceptable?

"We don't do celebrity branding," said Mathew Swenson, a spokesman for American Apparel, adding that Lindsey Lohan had to have purchased the sweatshirt herself. This remark comes after the company decided to splash pictures on their website of the popular actress wearing one of their hoodies passed out drunk. It didn't even stop there, some American Apparel stores ran hoodie sale ads on the front page of their local newspaper along with the pictures.

We might know everything about fashion, the latest beauty trends, the juiciest gossip about our favourite celebrities, but how many woman out there know more than just the basics about their car? I certainly don't.

My car averages one breakdown a year, and that's not counting the other times it goes temperamental on me - whirring noises, stalling, air condition problems..... However, the thought of trading my designers for a jumpsuit and taking an automotive course just doesn't appeal to my senses too much.

Recently I had another dilemma with an old sports car I had sitting in my garage. A mechanic offered to buy it for what I thought was a really cheap price (thanks to another mechanic that persuaded me a couple years ago to install a refurbished engine, install new seats and get the body work done) and I thought I could get a better price. I searched around the internet but I found too much white noise - information that is inconsequential, or even conflicting with each other. Alyssa Milano is really hot this year. She has two must-see movies that are being released that are already creating buzz - Pathology and The Blue Hour. I have been a devoted fan ever since she stepped into the television scene with Who's The Boss, Melrose Place, and of course my favourite of all time, Charmed.

Did you know that she is also turning 35 years old this year? Hard to believe, but that woman doesn't seem to be aging at all. Really gets me all green with envy ..... I'd love to have two of whatever she's having please! It could just be that she has sworn of red meat and is a real honest to goodness vegan. I am considering of converting to the same lifestyle if I can just look as young as she does.

If need be, call on others to handle certain situations which are a repeated source of stress for you. Another way to reduce stress is to delegate some of the workload to others when at work, and to have the family help out around the house so home life is less hectic for you.

When you feel the need to eat, try and give yourself some time before reaching for something to eat. If you can do something to occupy your time (other than eat) for about twenty minutes, the craving may very well pass on its own.

Make it a habit to eat on a regular schedule, and keep healthy snacks such as fruits and raw veggies for in between meal breaks. It's the sugary snacks in between meals that will add up quickly in unwanted pounds. Eating on a regular schedule will also insure that you don't get too hungry. When we feel as if we are starving, we tend to grab and eat anything near us and regular meals will help prevent this from happening.

By adding exercise to your daily routine, you can work off the stress of the day and lose any extra weight. Find a set of exercises that fit your fitness level and your time schedule so it will be something which you'll actually look forward to doing. The most important thing is that you do something to keep the stresses of everyday life from turning into health threatening excess weight.

It wasn't too long ago when hip hop mogul Sean Combs (aka Puff Daddy, P Diddy) released his own signature fragrance for men called Unforgiveable under the Sean John label. The first set of advertisements to promote the cologne was this picture - himself with two women wrapped in bed sheets.

Well, he did get the public's attention with the overtly sexual and racy advertisements. Eventhough fragrance leader Estee Lauder stood by the "true spirit and representation" of Unforgivable, they started a brand new campaign that was deemed more "store friendly".

Looks like Diddy showed them all what it takes to be number one. He just won the most coveted and prestigious Men's Fragrance of the Year Award at the 2007 Fragrance Foundation Awards (the Oscar of fragrances) beating favourites like Ralpha Lauren and Calvin Klein.

I can't wait to see how well he does when he launches the female perfume version of Unforgivable in September.

I really promised myself that The Diva Network wasn't going to get involved in the media circus created by Paris Hilton being in an out of prison.

1. You can actually do an inmate search on their website and if you type in Paris Hilton, you will get the court info on her arrest.

World Entertainment News Network just recently reported that my favourite bat hero of all time is dreading filming the sequel to Batman Begins this summer.

When my fave prima donna, Vanessa Williams, reported last Memorial Day that her one year old Yorkie Enzo had disappeared from her fenced-in home, everyone thought that a celebrity dognapper had broken in and took the puppy..... I guess in a way, that's a little bit better than thinking that the wild coyotes had taken little Enzo.

Lucky for her, a woman had found him alive and well, running along the streets in Pleasantville. The Lower Hudson Online reported today that the woman brought Enzo in to a vet hospital in Stamford, Connecticut and that was when the local vet found an embedded chip that identified his famous owner!

It is nice that owner and dog were reconciled, and that she didn't have to hire a pet detective and PR firm to find him (former tabloid publisher Gus Chandler and missing Gus, a blond dachshund). This absolutely zesty dish is a recipe I found over at the California Strawberry Commission and it sounds absolutely delish! Who would have thought strawberries, jalapeno and my favourite chicken wings would make such a meal to remember?

"People are used to thinking about strawberries in desserts or as snacks," says Chef Mary Pagan, creator of the recipe and Certified Executive Chef/C.E.O. of the Culinary Center of Monterey in Monterey, California. "But strawberries add a surprising and delicious twist when paired with savory foods and main dishes. They really add that 'Wow!' factor. Dishes that impress but are easy to fix are always a hit with cooks, too."

Did you know that by adding strawberries to your recipes is an excellent way to increase vitamin C in your diet? In fact, a serving of eight strawberries has 160% of the Daily Value of vitamin C and they are also a source of fiber and folate. So, don't take this dish just for it's yummy face value, it also good for your health!

Here's the recipe :

Ingredients:
2 1/2 pounds chicken wings
4 ounces cornstarch
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 pounds frozen strawberries
1/4 cup jalapeno -- seeded and diced
1 cup water

Wash chicken wings. Combine cornstarch, salt and pepper. Mix well. Toss the chicken wings in the cornstarch mixture until all are lightly coated. Place on single layer on a sheet pan. Spray lightly with Pam or pan coating. Place in a 375 degree oven for 40 minutes. While the chicken is baking, combine the remaining ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to a boil. Reduce to simmering, stirring occasionally until a sauce begins to thicken a little. Coat chicken wings with hot sauce.

Makes 8 servings. Serving size: 6 wings

Nutrition information: 234 Calories; 10g Fat (37.8% calories from fat); 12g Protein; 25g Carbohydrate; 2g Dietary Fiber; 47mg Cholesterol; 260mg Sodium.

Folic Acid Recommended by AHA for Mothers-To-Be

Women who are planning on starting a family, or even just those who are of child-bearing age are being urged by The American Heart Association (AHA) to take a daily multivitamin containing 400 micrograms (mcg) of folic acid in order to reduce the risk of neural tube birth defects. Taking the recommended dosage just before and during pregnancy is important because it can significantly lower malformations of the spine, skull and brain of the fetus.

The AHA noted that "folic acid is critical to the normal growth and development of the fetus and appears to have a protective effect against the development of heart defects. Data suggest intake of folic acid is particularly important prior to conception."

"Since the government began its mandatory food fortification program in 1998, and public/private partnerships have been urging women to take a multivitamin with folic acid, we've seen a 27 percent decline in the number of neural tube birth defects in this country. You don't have to be guilty of skanky sandal feet this Summer. It doesn't take a lot of expensive trips so the spa to have nice looking feet, all you need is to exfoliate and moisturize daily, then pretty up your toes with a nice polish.

The best type of moisturizer for your feet is one with alpha hydroxy acids. These will slough off the dead skin cells that make your heels so dry. Apply a good one twice a day: after bathing, and at night.

Here is a recipe for an all natural moisturizing treatment for your feet. The papaya contains natural fruit acids.

Mix:
1 ripe papaya
1 cup plain yogurt
1 T. honey
1 T. coconut oil

Apply to feet then slip into old socks for at least 15 minutes. (While you wait, deep condition your hair or apply a self tanner.)

Contrary to popular belief, if you use a pumice to scrub the dead skin off your feet, it will actually be more effective if you do this when your feet are dry, not wet. After you remove calluses, rub your feet briskly with a salt or sugar scrub, then soak your feet for 10 minutes in warm water. Push back your cuticles gently, and apply a moisturizer, making sure to keep it off your toenails.

Then, apply two coats of a polish you like. A pale pink looks good on almost all skin tones and makes your feet look tan too. To keep them looking good, apply a top coat once every other day.

The perfume fragrances you wear can cause people to be attracted to you or, unfortunately, to flee from you! You should carefully choose perfumes that enhance the space around you. Be careful not to offend others with fragrances that are too strong. Here are some quick perfume tips on choosing and wearing fragrances.

Choosing a Perfume Fragrance

Find a fragrance that complements your skin and natural aroma of your body. The scent should be subtle enough to not invade anyone else's "personal space" but pleasant enough that others will want to stay around you. Perfume is meant to enhance your personality, attire, and overall being.

When you visit the fragrance department in a department store, sample perfumes by spraying a couple of fragrances on your skin in areas located far apart from one another. For example, spray one type on your hand and the other on your upper arm. Don't try spraying on more than two fragrances in a single trip. Then, leave the store or at least the perfume section for a few minutes to smell the fragrances on your skin. This will allow you to smell the scents without them blending with others from the fragrance section.

Try each scent directly on your skin to be sure it's the perfect match. The fragrance should blend well with your normal body aroma, as well as the scents of your clothing detergent, shampoos, and makeup.

If you think you've found the perfect perfume for you, wait a day before buying. Try on a sample of only that particular perfume from the department store and then leave it on for a day. Be sure it doesn't lose its scent during the day, change scents, or cause any allergies or headaches. Wearing it for a day should reveal all of these.

Do's of Wearing Perfume

If you have dry skin, wear extra perfume. The oils in your skin, or lack thereof, can enhance or weaken the scent. When it's cold out, wear extra perfume. Cold weather tends to weaken the scent as well. When, buying new perfume, don't base your decision on what works for someone else. Try it out on your own skin first. Everyone's skin reacts differently to a scent.

The best time to apply perfume is right after a shower or bath. After bathing, your skin pores will be open and will soak up the perfume's fragrance. Also when bathing, use non-deodorized soap where the perfume will be applied. Soaps and deodorants can affect how the perfume will smell on your skin; the mixture won't always be pleasant!

When applying perfume, dab it in unusual places where it will stay warm and keep its scent longer. It can be applied on the inside of the elbow, on the wrist, neck, stomach, cleavage, and back of the knees.

Don'ts of Wearing Perfume

While there are many positives to wearing perfume, there are few things to avoid. One involves perfume and jewelry. Certain types of jewelry, such as costume or pearl jewelry, can become discolored due to perfume alcohols. Some jewelry can also be stripped of its outer coating. When wearing perfume with this type of jewelry, apply it away from the jewelry.

Don't use only one perfume year round. Test out various perfumes during seasonal changes to see which ones work best in the hot or cool temperatures. Different fragrances are affected by temperatures when it comes to scent intensity.

Never apply perfume behind the ears. It can blend with skin secretions and create a bad smell. Also, don't spray perfume onto light-colored clothes because it can turn the fabric yellow.

When buying perfumes online, try out the same brand and scent in a local store first to be sure it's right for you. You can often find great perfumes and men's colognes such as Adidas, Antonio Puig, Anucci, Byblos, Britney Spears, Bulgari, Chanel, Capucci, Cartier, and more at online shopping stores.

I have been busy packing away my winter clothes and taking out sunny weather appropriate clothing from the storage. I really love the process of sifting through pile high of clothes and religiously placing them in the right place where I know I will be able to find them. My husband tells me that the only time he doesn't hear a peep from me is when I "play" with my clothes.

After a little bit of rummaging, I have realized how much of a pack rat I am. I do not ever throw anything out. In fact, I just enjoy making what's old, new again. It's a habit I've picked up from my mother (the original diva, did I say?)

I have so many clothes and every season, I just add more, and more, and more. There are even some items that hanging in my spring & summer wardrobe in the closet that still have price tags on them. No .... there is nothing wrong with these clothes, I just never got a chance to wear them before winter set in. And we are just talking about articles of clothing, we haven't gotten to discussing my shoe collection!

Anyway, my honey and I have just bought a really nice condo and I know I won't be able to bring all of my *precious* clothes with me. So, I have decided that I must make a list of which ones I can bear to part with (no! no! no!) and sell them online.

Ebay charges a listing fee and if I listed every single piece with them, I'll go broke! I was considering giving them all away until I found The Personal Closet googling. All listings are free and it's great because I don't want to feel the pressure of making sure everything sells to recover the cost of selling!

A recent survey of more than 2,100 married homeowners presented some startling facts, including a willingness to "get sexy" with energy conservation. In addition to exploring alternative fuels, like propane, couples cited options such as eating out on "dates" instead of cooking at home, lowering the thermostat, and even showering together as ways to reduce energy consumption and cost.

Many men and women disagree on who's in charge of the household finances, but when the numbers were tallied, both sexes agreed women were about 20 percent more likely to make decisions affecting household finances and paying bills on time.

Ferrellgas Partners, L.P. (NYSE:FGP), one of the nation's largest propane distributors, commissioned the study to evaluate usage trends, given the prevalence of discussions on energy consumption and alternative fuels, and may have debunked a few myths along the way.

"We've always focused our business model on understanding our customers, so we can provide reliable service and quality products which best meet their ever-changing needs," said Scott Brockelmeyer, Ferrellgas director of marketing. "You hear the age-old jokes about who controls the remote control or drives on family vacations, but at the end of the day, we want to understand who's making the key energy decisions within America's households."

The "Battle of the Sexes" survey showed Americans are nearly three times more likely to adjust their thermostat to stretch the household budget than limit the use of hot water, and that the longer a couple is married, the more pragmatic their method of conserving energy.

Respondents claimed reliability and reputation were very important when choosing a home heating provider, and customers who use propane to heat their home or cook were much more likely to consider propane an environmentally friendly fuel choice, when compared to the total sample.

The Dickson family, founders of The Chihuahua Fanatics Club, are fed up with the dismal state of affairs in the commercial dog food industry. In fact, they are so upset that they and their fellow Chihuahua Fanatics Club members have taken matters into their own hands. They have begun collecting, analyzing and publishing the ingredients, labeling and marketing literature of brand-name, gourmet dog foods to highlight the widespread lack of quality and safety of these commercially prepared foods. But they won't stop there. They are also developing a complete set of Chihuahua nutritional guidelines, as well as an ever growing collection of whole food recipes that are good for the entire family, dogs as well as humans.

"Like most Chihuahua owners, we care deeply about the health and well being of our Chihuahuas", says Vicki Dickson, co-founder of The Chihuahua Fanatics Club.

"It was devastating to hear, yet again, about the loss of so many precious pets because of the poor quality of the food that is available for them," she says.

"As we researched the nutritional requirements of our Chihuahuas, it became obvious that optimal nutrition for them is essentially the same combination of basic ingredients as are needed in the human diet. It's just that their quantities are a lot smaller", stated Gregg Dickson, co-founder of the club.

"Most people don't realize that dogs are omnivores, just as humans are. They don't do well on a diet of mostly meat, but need a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals, in a slightly different ratio than is best for humans.

"We aren't talking about table scraps," states Mr. Dickson, "but a combination of lean meats, whole grains and easily digestible vegetables. The same types of foods that dogs and humans ate in the wild before we became civilized. This is the way we were designed to eat, and virtually all humans and canines ate this way until the last few hundred years.

"We believe that both our dogs and our human family members can benefit greatly by going back to the basics of a whole food diet and avoiding all of the refined, processed, man-made foods laden with unnatural and unhealthy substances like white flour, processed fats, refined sugars and a slew of undecipherable chemicals. These include foods like white bread, pasta, white rice and almost all packaged foods. For commercial dog food it's much worse, even downright disgusting! They take all of the stuff that isn't fit for human consumption, including animal organs, stomachs and bowels ... with the contents still in them, sick and diseased animals, even road kill and euthanized dogs and cats in some documented cases. Then they mix in the refuse from vegetable and grain processing. Stuff like ground corn cobs and husks, rotten and spoiled vegetables and moldy, fungus laden grains. Then they mix it all together, package it up and sell it as dog food.

"The commercial food manufacturers, of both human and dog food, seem to be more concerned about their profit margins than they are about the health of their customers. This leads to a strong temptation to 'cut corners' by using cheaper, less nutritious ingredients, less than optimal processing techniques and unsafe or unhealthy chemicals to reduce the preparation time or increase the shelf-life of their products.

"But rather than crusade to try to change the commercial dog food industry, we want to provide solutions that will work for the average dog loving family today. While consulting, feng shui expert Marina Lighthouse offers her clients hints and tips for better sleep and feng shui in the home. "This is an area where you spend a good part of your life, so make sure you have everything you need to induce good rest."

If you suffer from sleep disorders such as anxiety and sleeplessness, you need to check your bed position. Where is it placed? According to the BTB school of feng shui, it is very important to have your bed in a commanding position. This is the position where one has the best unobstructed view of the main entrance while lying in bed. However, do not align your bed directly with the door.

Having a headboard against the same wall as the main bedroom door can create health issues such as headaches, insomnia, problems with the nervous system and poor mental well being. This in turn can lead to a breakdown in all areas of life, i.e. career, finances, and relationships. The solution is to place a mirror on the opposite wall to reflect the door.

Lighthouse says to look at the feng shui and chi of what surrounds you from all directions, inside and outside. Are there sharp angles pointing at you? Correct them or they will affect you negatively. Soften interior angles with cloth or round faceted crystals. Exterior sharp angles, for example an angle coming from a neighbor's roof line, can be corrected with placement of a bagua mirror.

Are you sleeping in high electromagnetic fields? This could ultimately affect your health. Robert McKusisck of Biomagnetic Research in Globe, Arizona has dedicated his life to creating specialized die-electric resonators to diffuse the EMF's (electromagnetic fields) in one's home. He also created EMF protection for cell phones. "Television screens radiate long after they have been turned off," says McKusisck. Keep the television out of the bedroom. An electric clock also radiates large EMF fields, so move it away from your night stand as the fields drop dramatically the farther you place it away from your body. Battery operated clocks do not have EMF fields, so they are a better choice.

Subconscious and psychological factors can also affect your sleep. The bedroom is supposed to be a place of intimacy. It is a place to re-charge emotionally, spiritually and physically. For optimal rest, Lighthouse says there are many factors to be considered concerning feng shui for your bedroom: Who has slept in your bed? What are you sleeping over? Are you using the area under your bed for storage? Lighthouse recalls a Silicon Valley professional who was having trouble sleeping. During the consultation, Lighthouse recommended removing the stagnant boxes that had been stuffed under her client's bed for years. When the client opened a particular box, she was surprised to find it was full of photographs of a former partner. She had been sleeping over them for years! Had this been having a negative effect? After implemented a few of Lighthouse's feng shui sleep tips, her client immediately noticed a "shift" and began to sleep better. Within two weeks, a new partner appeared, and within three months they were off to Paris together... viva amore!

Unpleasant memories may be attached to objects you have inadvertently placed around your room. Over time, these objects can drop your energy level like a ten ton weight, so remove them from your bedroom immediately. Better yet, remove them from your home. Positive, inspirational objects of color and beauty will lift your energy and improve your overall well being.

Your morning beauty regime takes you exactly 12 minutes. First comes the face wash, then the astringent, followed by the moisturizer. And the list goes on. It's become such a chore, but wasn't there a time when this routine was fun? Well, we decided to take you back to the days when applying makeup was a treat by giving you some innovative beauty tips and tricks to spice up your routine.

To get this insider information, we contacted Carmindy, resident make-up artist on TLC's "What Not to Wear," and author of The 5 Minute Face. Here are her 10 beauty tips to leave you feeling fresh and fabulous.

Beauty Tip # 1 - Make perfume last.

A few spritzes of perfume in the morning will not carry you through the day, no matter how expensive your bottle may be. To make your scent last, try this beauty tip: put an unscented moisturizer on first and then spray on your perfume a few seconds later. "There's so much alcohol in perfume," Carmindy explains, "that if you spray it on dry skin, a lot of times it evaporates so quickly. But if you have moisturizer on your skin it adheres much better."

Beauty Tip # 2 - Lip gloss without the goop.

Instead of directly putting the tube of gloss to your lips, Carmindy recommends adding an extra step to ensure less stickiness. "I like to put lip gloss on my fingertips first and then just pat it onto the flesh of my lips. And this way you'll get a little bit of glow, but it won't be too goopy." Also, try a moisturizing lipstick or a lip stain first before you add the gloss to make sure the color stays put.

Beauty Tip # 3 - A sweet scrub.

"The best exfoliate in the world is regular white table sugar." If every scrub out there contains some form of sugar, like "Almond Sugar Scrub" or "Brown Sugar Scrub," why not just use what's in your kitchen cupboard? "What happens is that the small crystals dissipate in water so they don't tear your skin." And, if you have sensitive skin, don't fret. "It even works better because with other products you might not like a fragrance or a lot of ingredients," states Carmindy. When you're in the shower, all you have to do is lather your face up like normal and then get a handful of sugar and scrub your face. And if you run out you'll be able to ask your cute neighbor for a spot of sugar!

Beauty Tip # 4 Ditch your spot concealer.

Instead of fumbling around your makeup bag for multiple concealers in the morning, just stick to one, advises Carmindy. The reason why? Because you can actually use the foundation stuck to the top of the cap of your liquid all-over concealer as your spot-treatment. "It oxidizes there so it becomes a little bit thicker." Plus, she says, "It's the same shade as your foundation, so it will instantly erase your blemish." To apply, just take a small tip concealer brush and dip into the cap of your foundation, or the nozzle if you use a spray. Then brush it on the spots and you're ready to go. Now it will be a good thing when your foundation lid gets cakey.

Beauty Tip # 5 - Recycle: Good for the earth, good for your lips. What are you supposed to do when your four best lipsticks are almost gone and your finger is tired from scraping out the remnants below? Carmindy suggests combining the half-used sticks into your own lip pallet. "Go to the drug store and purchase a plastic pill box and dig out the lipstick that's left in the tubes. Then put each color into a different little section of the pill box." You can mix and match the colors or even put Vaseline in one of the sections to make your own lip gloss.

Beauty Tip # 6 Celebrity-size lips.

To get fuller lips people often outline them with a pencil, but most of the time it looks noticeable and unsophisticated (especially when the lipstick comes off and you're left with just that awful line). To get invisible enhancement, Carmindy recommends you take a Q-tip and dip it in a little bit of white shimmer eye shadow and lightly trace the outside of your lips. "What will happen is that the shimmer will capture the light and make your lips seem larger." You won't be able to see it, but the slight glimmer will do the trick. Great if you don't have any collagen handy.

Beauty Tip # 7 - Bronzed but not dirty.

Dusting bronzer all over your face can make you look like you've been rolling around in the sand box all day or have picked up a part time job as a chimney sweep. Carmindy prefers a spray bronzer to get the appearance of a fresh summer tan. "I like to spray a sponge and then what I do is just push it onto the skin--on the temples and then right underneath the cheekbones because this is kind of where the sun would kiss your face. And if you like powder bronzer you can apply it in the same places too."

Beauty Tip # 8 - Brow breakthrough.

If you've been awarded barely there eyebrow DNA, you've probably tried everything to make them visible--and figured out that most of the time these products end up rubbing off by the end of the day. If you still want eyebrows at five p.m., Carmindy advises buying waterproof liquid eyeliner that matches your hair color like black, brown or taupe. Then, she says, "You can take an angled brush and feather the liquid eyeliner on to your eyebrows and it will stay put all day long. It looks more natural than a pencil and stays longer." It's a win-win.

Now if you're like me and are on the opposite end of the brow spectrum you might need some help keeping your out-of-control brows in check. To do this, "Take a spooly brush or an old tooth brush, put a little hair gel on there and just brush it onto your eyebrows to have them stay put."

Beauty Tip # 9 - Not your average smoky eye.

"What I like to do is take a color like a navy blue or a sparkling kind of burgundy purple and just line the inside rim and right along the upper and lower lash line and then smudge it with a Q-tip. That way, there's no eye shadow pushing the eye back, but you still have the smoky effect because they're lined with color. If you have deep-set eyes, Carmindy advises you to avoid putting dark shadow on your eyelids because it will make them seem even more pushed back. "There are so many ways to do a smoky eye, but people always think there's only one way to do it."

Beauty Tip # 10 - Save time and eye shadow

Running late in the morning? The best thing you can put on is white shimmering highlight powder. "If you highlight three key places you set of the planes of your face--you don't even need eye shadow," says Carmindy. These key spots are underneath the eyebrow, on the inside corner of the eye and on top of the cheekbone. "It brings sparkle to the eye; it lifts up the lid and draws attention to the top of the cheekbone." Now all you need is a big cup of coffee to actually feel as awake as you look.

Who says your beauty routine has to be boring--especially now that you can take a box of sugar with you in the shower or turn a pill box into a personalized lip pallet. With these beauty tips You just might have to rethink your 12 minute routine after all.

Just imagine ... a coffee machine that learns your drinking patterns and adapts itself so that whenever you want a cup of triple espresso at 7am, it's already being brewed to perfection. Thanks to a technology called "ubiquitous computing", appliances are now able to turn on and prepare favourite recipes based on their owner's thoughts.

"For the first several weeks, the machine learns the drinking patterns of its users. Then it adapts. Every Sunday afternoon, it's French vanilla cappuccino time. After dinner, it does up a creamy decaf cafe au lait," says James Pappas, Product Manager at JL Hufford Coffee & Tea, and inventor of the thinking technology. He also envisions yet another feature that coffee lovers would love - "You have your coffee maker on speed dial," explains Pappas, "and you just give it a call when you are a few minutes from home, and it already knows what to brew. If you want to override preset drink preferences, you can dial in and enter an override drink code."

The Next Smallest Dog in the World?

Munchkin is a teeny tiny Yorkshire Terrier born on February 7th, 2006. At almost a year and half, Munchkin now weighs only 1 pound and 13 ounces. She measures 10 inches from head to tail and 5 inches from the ground to her shoulder. Completely healthy and full of energy, her owners, Teresa Meng and Mike Hsiao, believe that she could possibly be the World's Smallest Yorkie, if not the World's Smallest Dog. Through their love of dogs, Teresa and Mike opened a luxury online dog boutique, small dog clothes and accessories, along with making Munchkin their official mascot.

Munchkin's owners were a little worried about their Yorkie being so small when she was puppy. They were aware of the dangers involved with extremely small dogs, such as hypoglycemia, a condition where a dog's blood sugar drops below normal inducing a coma like state. However, since Munchkin was born, she never showed any signs of being unhealthy. In fact, her owners state that they have never seen a Yorkie with as much energy as Munchkin.

"She zips all over our house at lightning fast speed, and has a vertical jump that could make Michael Jordan jealous" states Mike Hsiao.

Although not official, Munchkin's owners believe she may be the world's smallest Yorkie, if not the world's smallest dog. Currently, the world's smallest dog according to the Guiness Book of World records is Brandi, a Chihuahua measuring 6 inches from head to tail and weighing less than 2 pounds. Although Munchkin measures 10 inches long, she only weighs 1 pound 13 ounces. The previous title for the smallest Yorkie in the world was held by Pinnochio, weighing in at only 1 pound and measuring 8 inches from head to tail. Unfortunately, Pinnochio died on June 1st 2004, at only two and half years of age.

As far as future plans for Munchkin, her owners just want her to be healthy and live a long life. Mike and Teresa also plan on entering her into more contests around the San Diego area. So far, Munchkin has racked up a couple contest wins including the "Cutest Dog" category at the 2007 Kiwanis Club Ugliest Dog Contest, and "Scariest Dog" category at the 2006 Daily Pet Costume Contest.

Muchkin's owners also see possible plans of using her as a dog model for print ads and commercials.

"Munchkin is definitely one of a kind. If she's not the World's Smallest Dog, then she definitely is the World's cutest dog. Just look at her photos wearing cute pieces of small dog clothes! We want to share Munchkin with the world to show everyone just how darling she is," states Teresa.

Tips for Towel Shopping

For most people, shopping for bath linens typically involves trying to find the right colors to match the bathroom tile work. But learning a few tips and knowing the basics about terry cloth, gram weight, fiber-type and yes, even color - can help turn the casual consumer into a near expert on bath linens.

Terry cloth is by far the most common towel material. It is a pile fabric, meaning it consists of cut or looped fibers that stand up close to one another on the surface of the underlying woven (or knit) material. Other examples of pile fabric include velvet, chenille and fleece. Most rugs and carpet are pile as well. Uncut loops make the thirstiest terry, because the looped part of the fiber is the most absorbent. Typically, the longer the loops, the more absorbent the fabric. Sheared terry cloth, while incredibly soft, will not soak up as much moisture. Many bathrobes and some towels are looped terry on one side, sheared terry on the other.

Gram weight refers to how many grams per square meter a towel weighs. Towels made from densely woven loops will feel thirstier and have a higher gram weight. Longer loops make for fluffy towels. Generally, a towel of 600 gram weight or more is considered plush - anything upwards of 700 and 800 gram weight is luxury hotel quality. Consumers should keep in mind, however, that a 600 gram weight towel made from exceptional cotton or microfiber may feel better than a heavier towel made with a cheaper cotton.

The type of material used in the towel fabric is also very important. Turkish and Egyptian cottons are the industry gold standard, as the long-stapled fibers result in softer, stronger and more lustrous material. Occasionally "Turkish towel" is used synonymously with "terry cloth" and may not necessarily be made out of Turkish cotton, (terry cloth originated from Turkey). In recent years, microfiber has become a popular material for towels. Microfiber is twice as fine as silk and both softer and more absorbent than regular cotton. Because of the lightweight and ultra absorbent nature of microfiber, gram weight is a less reliable indicator of quality.

Towels come in all sizes and colors, but it may surprise shoppers to learn that the lighter the color, the softer the towel will probably be. Cotton that has been dyed a deep, rich color must go through an involved process that can leave the cotton yarns slightly less soft than their less-extensively dyed counterparts. Extra washings should help soften them up. Microfiber towels like those made from modal take dye readily and well, so even the darkest or brightest colors remain very soft. Care should be taken to wash these towels in warm, not hot, water.

Heather Young, Vice President and buyer for Linenplace.com, an online luxury online bedding store retailer, has a couple washing tips to offer customers: "Never use dryer sheets or fabric softener when washing towels - most of them are made with wax or silicones, which are water-repelling by nature. It might feel like you're trying to dry yourself off with a plastic bag.

"Always wash your new towels before using them - this will remove extra dye, lint and other coatings left over from the manufacturing process. My secret to fresh-smelling towels is a half or full cup of baking soda added to the wash cycle.

"And to keep towels extra fluffy, simply shake them when they come out of the dryer," Ms. Young adds.

One might deem a young woman at such a young age to be a workaholic. She is an heiress to a share of the Hilton Hotel fortune, as well as to the real estate fortune of her father Richard Hilton. She provides inspiration, beauty, and excitement to people all over the U.S. and the world.

As most of America now knows, Ms. Hilton was convicted on May 4, 2007 in a Los Angeles court with violation of her probation as well as driving on a suspended license and sentenced to 45 days in Century Regional Detention Facility in California beginning on or before June 5, 2007.

We, the American public who support Paris, are dismayed by how Paris has been the person to be most severely punished as the poster person that drunk driving is wrong. We do not support drunk driving or DUI charges. Paris should have been sober yet; Paris Hilton did not hurt anyone except herself. But how can she remain at the level of her current productivity in jail?

As depicted on Friday night's episode "Nancy Grace" on Headline News (May 4, 2007), countless celebrities have been "slapped on the wrist" for similar incidents recently. Nick Nolte, Mel Gibson, Tracy Morgan, Wynonna Judd, to name a few, were arrested and never did a day in jail after their initial arrests for drunk driving /DUI /DWI charges. Rappers Busta Rhymes and Eve still walk free after both being arrested for the same charges as Ms. Hilton just this past week.

This petition is to request that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger commute Miss Hilton's sentence for her mistake. Please allow her to her return to her career and life. Everyone makes mistakes. And most importantly, she has learned her lesson. She is sincere, apologetic, and full of regret for her actions as she explained tearfully to the Judge handling her case in court yesterday. She is distraught and afraid.

We need your support to save Paris from ending up at the Century Regional Detention Facility. Please sign to tell The Honorable Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of the State of California, to think about the welfare of this young woman who has made a serious error and deserves a second chance like so many others in our great nation have been given after a mistake they have made. Paris Hilton fans petition to "Free Paris" from 45-day jail sentence

Paris Hilton fans are making an appeal of their own. An online petition at FreeParis.org is taking a stand against LA County Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer and his punishment of the 26-year-old heiress. The organization is collecting signatures, comments, and sympathy from disheartened fans across the nation.

FreeParis.org organizers plans to submit one million signatures before the socialite's scheduled arrival at a Lynwood, CA detention center on June 5. They and the site's fans agree that she is being treated unfairly.

"No heiress deserves to go to jail," says site co-founder and campaign organizer, Kyle Vincent. "I'm dedicated to providing this outlet for friends and fans to show their support for Paris." Vincent started the site May 4th, when he heard of the court sentencing.

One petitioner writes, "Paris Hilton is being railroaded because of her celebrity. She should not have to serve time over this."

Site visitors can also be trendsetters, by declaring their support with an original "Free Paris" t-shirt, bumper sticker, or gift. Vincent says the "Free Paris" shirt is popular, but the FreeParis.org online store has several other campaign slogans, such as "Team Paris," "Free Paris, then Tibet," or "Jail? That's not hot."

Paris is certainly a symbol of American celebrity culture, and we should expect no less from her devoted fans. Another supporter writes, "I love Paris. She is way too fabulous for jail...and, by the way, stripes are out this summer."

Other high profile court cases have spawned online petitions and fashion campaigns, but with Hilton's plans to appeal the court's imposed sentence, some think this frenzy will jump start a season of "Free Paris" apparel.

I'm not sure why I make it harder on myself.

Whenever I go to the mall to shop, I have this need (more like an *itch*) to price compare before I purchase anything. This just makes things very complicated, not only for me, but for my husband who has the unfortunate honor of accompanying me on my expeditions.

I have this crazy system for price comparison shopping. First stop would always be Holt Renfrew to check out the new designer bags from Louis Vuitton. I make detailed notes of the ones that I want. Then, I head over to Best Buy (no, no, not to buy) to use their computers to see if I can get a better deal on the net. Sometimes, there'll be just one on the list, but when it's a mile and a half long, I wish there was a better way to do it.

And, the better way, doesn't mean buying it straight off the shelf at Holt Renfrew, or waiting until the price drops at the store (which is never by the way). What if I can get a better deal somewhere else? I mean, of all the sellers out there in the world wide web, someone must be having a Louis Vuitton sale!

It's a habit my husband is trying to break, so he's gone ahead and got me hooked up with Frucall. This ultra cool service lets me hear current online prices using my mobile phone anytime and anywhere! It's for free and I don't have to download any special software!

Why has no one ever told me about this before? It's the best thing since stilettos were invented!

Now, all I have to worry about is the "evil eye" I've been getting from the sales ladies at Holt Renfrew. As if I'm trying to give away state secret, or something ....

The most common type of headache is the tension headache. Studies indicate between 63%-93% of men and women over the age of 25 experience tension headache. The first is muscle inhibition, where a gentle inhibitory pressure is applied to tight suboccipital muscles to reduce spasm. Second is occipital decompression, where the skull is lifted out of and released from its impacted position. The third is a gentle craniosacral technique (CV-IV) that resets the body's cerebrospinal mechanism thereby reducing stress and inducing a feeling of well-being. All three techniques are specifically addressed by The Relief Pyramid design: the bowl-shaped edge, adjustable height and foam pad resiliency.
