San Francisco Plastic Surgeon Dr. Scott Mosser leads the way in advanced fat grafting for shaping of the buttocks: "The Brazilian Butt Lift" procedure is gaining in popularity as a natural and long-term alternative to other procedures such a buttock implants.
San Francisco Bay Area Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Scott W. Mosser performs a full range of advanced plastic surgery procedures at several locations in San Francisco. He receives patients and performs procedures at his office in downtown San Francisco in the historic Sutter Building at 450 Sutter Street on Union Square, as well as performing surgery at the California Pacific Medical Center and St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco.
In Northern California, where emphasis is placed on natural results and implants are less popular than other areas of the country, it seems that a procedure where body augmentation can be achieved through using one's own fat would seem to be appealing. Such is the case with the latest trend, buttock augmentation through fat grafting after liposuction. Perhaps because of the influence by popular Brazilian beachwear, this procedure has earned its name as "the Brazilian Buttock Lift."
"The
Brazilian Butt Lift is simply the term coined for a procedure designed to reduce the waistline dramatically while filling the upper quadrant of the buttocks. This way the final overall shape is a lifted and rounded contour with better projection, a là the Brazilian beauties that the procedure honors." explained Dr. Mosser. "It's not just a fashion trend, however. A thin waist combined with more generous hips has been desirable for thousands of years of culture. Many women are now coming to me to correct the too-flat, low or masculine appearing derriere they were born with, or to re-shape their buttocks following significant weight loss."
Dr. Mosser explained that traditional methods, including implants and liposuction, for buttocks augmentation have been used for some time, but advances have been made in techniques that avoid the problems of having long-term foreign implants in the body. "The desired shape can now be accomplished either by fat transfer or using a micro fat injection technique. Though painstakingly meticulous, I prefer this 'microlipofilling' procedure which uses a patient's own fat instead of implants and is capable of obtaining natural, incredibly long-lasting results."
In the micro fat injection technique the surgeon removes fat from selected areas of the patient's body by liposuction, purifies and processes the fat, and then injects tiny amounts of the specially treated fat cells into the buttocks. The process involves making scores, or even hundreds, of separate injections through the same little incisions using special cannulas, or needles. This ensures the fat receives a sufficient blood supply to survive in their new location in the buttocks tissue. The procedure takes significantly longer to perform than some other procedures and requires a specialist like
Dr. Scott Mosser, but can result in more of the grafted fat remaining for the long term. The fat that does remain after one year can remain for a lifetime, and scarring and side effects of the procedure are minimal.
