DECOR & STYLE MAGAZINE - For years, incredibly talented artists and artisans across the globe have struggled to find larger markets for their handmade products because they live in remote places. They resort to selling their goods to the tourist trade or to international art dealers, who then resell their goods at huge markups. At the same time, as large home furnishing stores expand, the consumer's purchasing options continue to diminish. As a result, interior design, like many other industries, has been compromised.

A unique web site with a humanitarian nature has been created to change all that. is out to start a revolution. Its goal is to create a bridge between the people who create unique decorative objects and the people who collect them. Some of their artisans come from generations of skilled craftspeople; many have abilities that have only recently been discovered. Each of them has his own story.

Humanitarian values are of primary importance to the members of the team. They could follow more profit-oriented pursuits, but they've chosen to focus their energies into making the world a little different, a little better. What drives them is the knowledge that they provide a direct, tangible benefit to the global art community while delighting art appreciators. In essence, they are not about profits; they are about people. And to that end, for every purchase made on the web site, the artist or artisan receives a high percentage of the purchase price - far more than he could receive through existing channels. By providing the platform for artists to express their creativity, increases their income and enhances their quality of life. Everybody wins. exists so that artists and artisans can do what they love best - create unique and beautiful work. To be an artist is extremely difficult in developing nations, where men and women who otherwise would be recognized - if not celebrated - for their abilities are making shoelaces on assembly lines or slapping stamps on agricultural crates. Below, we share some of
their stories; many more are on

Rosa Ruiz Bazan grinds a pile of tiny red cactus mites into a deep burgundy powder creating a natural dye. She dumps the fine dust into a boiling cauldron filled with spun wool. In her outdoor workshop family members work at large wooden looms. The Ruiz Bazan family has been hand-weaving richly colored carpets since the 16th century. Up until a year ago, the family business was modest. Then a company called asked them to sell their rugs in a new market called the World Wide Web.

Using a computer donated by, they can see which carpets are selling quickly and make more. And they don't have to travel from the hinterlands to Oaxaca City in order to make a sale. Since joining Novica, the family reports they have increased their staff by 50 percent. They are now in a position to consider giving a raise to their weavers.

Another artist works in a community in Peru where most of the artists had gone to work in copper mines. And now, because of his success with, he's been able to hire many of his family members and neighbors back from the mines and into the weaving business. They are now able to do what for many generations their family has done before, and that is to weave
incredible tapestries.

The staff of Décor & Style finds the efforts and successes of this venture very heartwarming. We would like to support this web site in any way possible. Please check it out for yourself and see the beauty it offers.
