Sanjaya Will Survive American Idol
I've heard so much about American Idol's Sanjaya, that I just had to go to Youtube to see if I can check out one of his performances.
Is Sanjaya really so bad that Simon Cowell has to be more nastier than his usual self? Or, could it be that American Idol can use the extra "boost" in viewership that the Sanjaya phenomenon is causing? There are even support vote groups that opened up just to keep him on the show!
I am not sure how I made it to one mailing list, but I get my weekly emails as a reminder to vote for "idol with the best hair." He's definitely got the charisma to be a superstar and a better vocal tone than most pop singers you hear on the radio today.
Since everyone in the blogosphere has given their two cents about the great Sanjaya.....

A pop idol who can't sing? Boy, who would ever have thought that could happen in America? Okay, I'm being catty. I have to admit to not being a huge Sanjaya fan, but if the point of the show is for Americans to pick the person they like best, and they like him best, then I guess he deserves to win. Ummm...I think I'm going to turn the TV off until House comes on now.

I thought this was all about Howard Stern and his radio show keeping Sanjaya this long? Unfortunately .. the kid is probably getting better each week and soon might become a contender with the remaining folk ..

Technical singers don't really do it for me. Sanjaya is much more fun to watch. Can you imagine the amount of pressure he's on considering all the "publicity" and he still doesn't blink... I think that is a good indication that he's developing his star personality, regardless if he wins or loses on American idol.

I can't believe you included Enrique and Jennifer Lopez in your mix of those who can't sing very well! I love their music. As for American Idol.. I, personally, want the best SINGER to win. It is a SINGING competition, not a "stage presence" competition. Obviously, he had enough talent to make it to the finals. But, he seems to be choking now. Plus, his huge smile bugs me.
